In a momentous development at the 48th Annual Gathering / 21st General Conference and Associated Meetings (2023) of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) in Balaclava, Mauritius, Nepal finds itself at the heart of the organization’s leadership transition.
India has been elected President, and Cambodia as Vice-President of the AIDB General Conference for the next two years, while the AIBD Executive Board (EXBO) is now led by Thailand as Chair, with Nepal securing the role of Vice-Chair.
AIBD’s Executive Board comprises 10 members. Joining Nepal in this influential group are Bhutan, France, Cambodia, South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, forming a diverse and dynamic coalition to guide the organization’s strategic direction.
As a founding member of Radio Nepal and Nepal Television since AIBD’s inception in 1977, Nepal has been a steadfast contributor to the organization’s mission. In the previous term, Radio Nepal was an Executive Board member, and the upcoming two years will see Nepal Television taking on the role of Vice-Chair within the ten-member EXBO. Buddhi Bahadur KC, Executive Director of Radio Nepal, and Samir Jung Shah, Executive Chairman of Nepal Television, proudly represented Nepal at the 21st General Assembly.
Philomena Gnanapragasam currently serves as the Secretariat Director of AIBD. In her role, she plays a pivotal part in guiding the institute’s strategic vision and initiatives, overseeing the development and advancement of media professionals across member countries.
This transition reflects Nepal’s commitment to the development and growth of broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific region, as the country actively engages in shaping regional policies and addressing global challenges alongside other influential members of AIBD. The leadership shift marks a significant chapter for Nepal, promising continued collaboration and innovation in the ever-evolving landscape of broadcasting.
