Historic appointment of Managing Director in Public Service Media, Maldives

Zeena Zahir has made history by becoming the first woman to assume the role of Managing Director at Public Service Media (PSM).

With over 17 years of experience in the media industry, she began her career as a senior reporter at Miadhu Daily in 2006 and later worked as a video journalist and presenter at VTV for over three years. Her expertise lies in parliamentary and political news coverage, as well as producing and presenting news and current affairs programs.

Zeena’s educational background includes Diplomas in Marketing Management (ABE Levels 5 & 6) and a Master of Business Administration from Avid College. She has received extensive media training both locally and internationally.

Beyond her media roles, Zeena has held various positions such as Vice President of South Asian Women Media, Council Member & Spokes Person of the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), and managerial roles at Maldives Ports Limited. She also served as the commissioner of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission for four years and seven months.

In addition to her professional commitments, Zeena is involved in documentary filmmaking, writing, and operates XeeTimes, an online platform addressing social and cultural issues. Her contributions to societal development, particularly in advancing women’s rights, have been recognized with the Rehendhi Award and Leadership Award.

With her extensive experience and diverse skill set, Zeena Zahir is poised to lead Public Service Media into its next phase.
