Media Leaders Roundtable

With the theme of ‘Innovation and Responsibility of Media in the Digital Age’, media leaders from Australia, Cambodia, India, Jordan, Korea, Laos, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Singapore, United Kingdom, United States and Vietnam, shared their insights and experiences during the roundtable discussions.
With the development of information technologies and the Internet, what changes will technical revolutions bring to the global media landscape? What difficulties will media organisations encounter in the path of innovation? Through what revolutions could media outlets release new growing motivation and shoulder greater responsibilities, while promoting the development of human civilization?
Mr. Wang Gengnian, President of China Radio International (CRI) and organiser of the event, moderated the roundtable discussions. He stressed that the media leaders roundtable provided a platform to examine the many dimensions of media and diversity, and its impact on crafting a clear vision and innovative strategies in order to build a sustainable organisation and foster a ‘media organisation and a society of difference’.
Mr. Yang Binyuan, AIBD Director attended the roundtable as a special guest. He addressed the meeting that based on the principles of broad, open, accommodating and mutual benefit, a regional platform needs to be established to encourage media dialogue and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, especially with the changing landscape in today’s complex media environment.
The Boao Forum for Asia is a non-profit organisation that hosts high-level forums for leaders from government, business and academia in Asia and other continents to share their vision on the most pressing issues in this dynamic region and the world at large. The Forum is modeled after the World Economic Forum held annually in Davos, Switzerland. It has its fixed address in Bo’ao, Hainan, China.
The Forum initiated since 2002 is committed to promoting regional economic integration and bringing Asian countries even closer to their development goals. This year’s Forum from 8-11 April 2014 is under the theme ‘Asia’s New Future: Identifying New Growth Drivers’.

The purpose of this event on gender equality and media was to initiate processes that will link up to ongoing actions and add momentum to gender equality and women’s empowerment in and through the media.
Successful Second MINI-INPUT in Manila
Following the INPUT Conference held in El Salvador in May 2013, The Goethe-Institut organised a MINI-INPUT from 14 to 16 November 2013 in Manila, in association with ABS-CBN, GMA Network, Inc. and the University of Santo Tomas.
Connect Asia-Pacific: Smartly Digital
AIBD participated the Connect Asia-Pacific Summit 2013 jointly organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Ministry of Information and Communication Technology of Thailand (MICT). The summit was held in Bangkok, Thailand on 18 November 2013.
PMPC 2013
The fourth Pacific Media Partnership Conference and associated workshops was held from 17 to 19 September 2013 in Port Vila, Vanuatu. The local host - Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation made all local arrangements to have a successful conference, jointly organised by AIBD and ABU since 2010.
Global Forum on Media and Gender
UNESCO and partners including AIBD have opened registration for the Global Forum on Media and Gender (GFMG), which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 2 to 4 December 2013.
International Conference on Broadcasting Development in Myanmar
As Myanmar transitions to democracy, the country is opening up more opportunities in many spheres of endeavor that will bring about dynamic changes in the country. The media industry welcomes this openness, tracking a new direction towards freedom and responsibility, and engaging more with its audiences.
AIBD at Broadcast Asia 2013
AIBD, as a supporting organisation, participated in Broadcast Asia 2013 held from 18 to 21 June at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. More than 51,000 participants from 100 countries and regions attended the annual exhibition and conference.
ASEAN Broadcasting Seminar in China
A seminar for broadcasters and media professionals from Southeast Asian countries was recently held in China, hosted by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) and facilitated by AIBD. It was attended by 13 participants from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
