The International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT), a non-profit professional organization of women working in electronic and allied media, has become AIBD’s affiliate member.
Founded in 1951, IAWRT is a forum for personal contact and professional development among women broadcasters worldwide. It is a non-governmental organization (NGO) in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Comprising women of many nationalities across the broadcast spectrum, IAWRT arranges international conferences with workshops, screenings, lectures, training and professional networking. It collaborates with media organizations, organizes conferences, implements projects and undertakes activities.

IAWRT Joins AIBD Family

AIBD/UN Collaboration
AIBD is pleased to announce its collaboration with the UN agencies to organize the Pre-Summit workshop on “MDGs: The Final Push – Media’s Role”. The workshop will review the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) ahead of the 2015 deadline and identify priority MDG goals that are still achievable with a 'final push', and what role media can play in this. The seminar will assist broadcasters in developing engaging stories on MDGs in their own countries and in understanding how to utilize the UN as a valuable source in this pursuit. The workshop will take place on 28 May 2012.
31st International URTI Grand Prix for Author’s Documentary
URTI organizes, with the support of UNESCO and the entirety of the international audiovisual organizations, the first audiovisual International Grand Prix. 81 countries were thus represented for the 2011 edition.
The closing date for entry is Monday 16 April 2012. Every TV channel has the opportunity to register 2 documentaries.
Women Make the News 2012: Rural women’s access to media and information
Launched annually on the occasion of International Women’s Day (8 March), Women Make the News (WMN) is a global policy advocacy initiative aimed at promoting gender equality in the media. The theme for this year is Rural women’s access to media and information.

ABU- AIBD Partnership Meeting
The 2nd ABU-AIBD partnership meeting was held on 14th February 2012 and was hosted by AIBD.
Mr Yang Binyuan Director, AIBD welcomed Dr Javad Mottaghi, Secretary-General of Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and the senior representatives of ABU’s Technology, Programming and News departments at the annual partnership meeting. They were Mr Sharad Sadhu, Director Technology, Mr Takeshi Doki, Director Programming and Mr Se-Deuk Ahn, Director News.
AIBD Hosts GMCD Board Meeting
The 4th Board of Director’s Meeting for the Global Media Centre for Development (GMCD) was conducted at the AIBD headquarters on 30 January 2012. Among those attending the meeting includes AIBD Director Yang Binyuan, GMCD Chairman Hugues D’annoux and GMCD General Manager Dimitri Mendjisky.
AIBD New Year Party
The much awaited annual excursion and AIBD New Year Party materialized on 6th January 2012 when the AIBD family had the pleasure of visiting Port Dickson on a day’s trip.
ABU Legal Counsel
The present Legal Counsel of ABU will complete his contract with the ABU on 19 April 2012. Applications are therefore being sought to fill this position with a view to having the new Legal Counsel take over the role in July 2012.
PMPC 2011
The Pacific Media Partnership meeting today adopted a key declaration calling on the governments, international organisations and all stakeholders to assist and empower the broadcasters in the Pacific region to help them carry out their mandate of providing information, education and entertainment through their services to audiences. This is deemed as an important step in the development and sustenance of the broadcasting industry in the region.
