The AIBD Regional Webinar on Media and Disaster Preparedness & Coverage on Tuesday, 17th December 2024, saw experts and participants from over 20 countries in Asia, Pacific and Africa, come together to discuss the important role of the media during disasters.
In times of crisis, accurate and timely information from the media can help save lives and guide recovery efforts. This webinar marks the start of AIBD’s new campaign on Disaster Risk Reduction and related matters. The focus was on improving collaboration between media agencies and disaster management agencies. With a distinguished panel of speakers, the discussions looked at and reiterated on ways to better prepare for and respond to emergencies through collaboration between disaster agencies and the media for impactful coverage.
The distinguished panel of speakers had Mr. Sanjay Agrawal, (Disaster Management) from the Ministry of Communication, India; Leftenan Colonel Dr. Ajantha Segamurthy from NADMA, Malaysia; Ms. Afrhill Rances, Regional Office for Asia Pacific, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; and Mr. Bernadus Satriyo Dharmanto, Televisi Republik Indonesia.
AIBD was pleased to also have ITU’s support with Consultant Mr. Amila Amunugama, in facilitating the discussions.
