Exploiting Cutting Edge Training Tools and Methodologies

Mrs. Nathalie Labourdette, Head of Eurovision Academy, Switzerland, has identified the ‘S’ analysis model as a strategy broadcast companies can use to nurture an agile and learning organization for innovation and performance in the ever-changing media landscape.

Mrs. Nathalie Labourdette, Head of Eurovision Academy, Switzerland, has identified the ‘S’ analysis model as a strategy broadcast companies can use to nurture an agile and learning organization for innovation and performance in the ever-changing media landscape.

“The S analysis model allows broadcast leaders to review their structure, systems, style, staff, skills, strategy and come out with shared values critical in building and delivering training programmes,” she pointed out.

Mrs Labourdette spoke at Session 1 on ‘Cutting edge training tools and methodologies’ of the 1st International Conference on Broadcast Training in Kuala Lumpur on 25 February 2013.

She said key broadcast leaders need to “dialogue with business teams to create their vision, not simply to react but to connect and deliver.” With strong pressures on costs, she said that formal training should carry strong added value for accountability and trust. “These tasks should be in place in four years time,” she pointed out.

Another speaker was Ms. Liu Ying, Assistant to the President, International Media Research Center of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, China (SARFT). She said that SARFT uses cloud technology to make training more convenient and relevant.

 “No matter what kind of training, we need to customize, individualize and tailor-made training,” she said.

Dra. Rosarita Niken Widiastuti, President Director of RCadio Republik Indonesia, identified some initiatives to enhance broadcasters’ access to qualified education; these include utilizing information technology by designing and creating database applications, learning application based on portal network, web, social media, interactive multimedia, and optimizing the use of video teleconference as enrichment material in order to support the improvement of education quality.  

Associate Professor Dr. Mus Chairil Samani, Head, Department of Communication, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak also spoke at this session and stressed that media educators as well as media practitioners need to be more informed. He said that in the fast evolving world that we live today, information fed through research will allow us to best response and predict the future.

“The best approach for an informed education is to base it with real-time research data. The new classroom needs to be retrofitted with computers that have accessed to real-time streaming data from the various locally and internationally resources,” he said.

 The last speaker was Ms. Rashmi Pradhan, Deputy Director General of All India Radio. She said that their training organization is utilizing e-learning methodologies to ensure a well equipped and relevant workforce exists. 

“Now we are looking at convergence media technologies, designing program for virtual world, live streaming, online journalism and content management, multimedia production and technique. These are small steps that we expect to complete in two to three years, “she said.
