19TH ASIA MEDIA SUMMIT
The Asia Media Summit (AMS) is an annual international media conference organised by AIBD as its flagship event. Every year in consultation with the members, partners and various global media gurus, a theme guides the direction and delivery of the summit. Being a unique broadcasting event in Asia-Pacific, it attracts around 500 top-ranking broadcasters, decision makers, media professionals, regulators, scholars, and stakeholders from within and outside the region. Apart from plenary sessions and pre-summit workshops, Asia Media Summit also provides a platform for intergovernmental dialogues to uplift the benchmarks of the regional media industry.

The 4M Jakarta Forum, to be held from 23-24 September 2014 in Jakarta, Indonesia will bring together more than 100 professionals from 10 ASEAN countries and Europe to discuss how online journalism is changing the way the general audience is interacting with information makers, the regional trends, limitations and possibilities. The pitch of the Forum is “Informing on the Web”.

The 4M Jakarta Forum, to be held from 23-24 September 2014 in Jakarta, Indonesia will bring together more than 100 professionals from 10 ASEAN countries and Europe to discuss how online journalism is changing the way the general audience is interacting with information makers, the regional trends, limitations and possibilities. The pitch of the Forum is “Informing on the Web”.

This event will be hosted by University Atma Jaya, Indonesia and co-organised by the Association of Independent Journalist (AIJ) Indonesia, Canal France International (CFI), Institut Français d’Indonésie (IFI), Embassy of France in Indonesia, and supported by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD).

Development and deployment of the Internet in Asia, together with a strong economic growth and political reforms are changing the way people in Southeast Asia are communicating and interacting. The access to information is rapidly changing in Southeast Asia, while a new media ecosystem is emerging, in which innovative editorial forms are being experimented.

Journalists, bloggers, academics, consultants will share their experiences at the Jakarta Forum in order to attempt answering few preoccupations such as:

  • How do regional citizens and media professionals integrate this new realities and new TIC tools?
  • What are the opportunities and the risks related to the use of new communication technologies and services in this local context?
  • How to extend the use of new technologies in order to provide or collect information to and from remote areas?
  • What is the future of Southeast Asia media?

The target group is online journalists from AIBD members from ASEAN countries outside from Indonesia.

Mr. Sashidharan P.M. Sreedharan joined AIBD as an IT Officer in April 2014.

Sashi started his career with OAC Insurance (Subsidiary of OCBC Bank) in 1995 as a backup operator. He later moved to Asia Brown Boveri Power Generation (ABB) in 1996 as an IT specialist, and Computer Systems Advisors Malaysia (CSAM) in 1999 as a field service engineer.

The Regional Workshop on Social Media for Development was held on 30 June – 2 July 2014 in Incheon, Republic of Korea and was attended by AIBD Programme Manager Saqib Sheikh. The workshop was organised by the United Nations Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT) and was attended by over 40 experts in various fields of development, including the government sector, media broadcasting, disaster risk relief and reduction, agriculture and ICT.
