The 4th Board of Director’s Meeting for the Global Media Centre for Development (GMCD) was conducted at the AIBD headquarters on 30 January 2012. Among those attending the meeting includes AIBD Director Yang Binyuan, GMCD Chairman Hugues D’annoux and GMCD General Manager Dimitri Mendjisky.

The meeting was a productive discussion on the overall operational and financial performance of GMCD during the year 2011 and the promotional strategy and budget plan moving forward. A particular focus of the meeting was the Mediahub Market for content providers and broadcasters to be set up at the upcoming Asia Media Summit 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The guests from GMCD also were invited to take part in birthday celebrations for two AIBD staff members, Holger Banko and Marcel Gomez, prior to the meeting.

Later in the day, AIBD Director Yang Binyuan joined with GMCD guests to launch the new GMCD office in Kuala Lumpur.

[img_assist|nid=2122|title=|desc=|link=none|align=none|width=550|height=361] Based in Kuala Lumpur, the Global Media Centre for Development (GMCD), created in 2009, is a joint venture between the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) and Worldview Global Media Holding (WGMH SA).

“Designing and Producing Content for Internet” was the last regional workshop of the 3-year training activities plan dedicated to TV content, formats and visual dynamics supported by the French Government and AIBD. This 4-day activity took place from 16 to 19 January 2012 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and was hosted by the local TV channel SCTV.

The aim of this workshop was the adaptation and the creation of TV programmes for the Internet platform. This workshop focused on the importance of creating Web content from a TV programme and helped TV producers to develop skills in managing the challenges this content format can bring.

The Bangkok Declaration was endorsed at the 1st Conference of the Ministers on Information and Broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific region, hosted by the Government of Thailand in May 2003 in Bangkok. The declaration offered recommendations to address challenges of media globalization, cultural diversity, public service broadcasting, information divide and human resource development could respond to the changing media environment.

WORLD TV AWARDS 2012

The World Television Awards are open to all broadcasters in Asia, Pacific, Europe, Africa, and North & South America from public, private sector and freelance producers.

For 2012, the two World TV Awards categories are:

  • Category Humanity for the Best Documentary on "Promoting Religious Understanding and Tolerance"
  • Category Science/Environment for the Best Programme on "Preserving Ozone layer and Protecting the Earth"

The Mediahub Market will be organised in conjunction with the Asia Media Summit (AMS) 2012, to be held from 29-30 May in Bangkok, Thailand at Sofitel Centara Grand Hotel. This new event will be the first B2B media trade show of its kind dedicated to business networking with content providers from all around the world and advertising agencies representing clients from all emerging markets.
