19TH ASIA MEDIA SUMMIT
The Asia Media Summit (AMS) is an annual international media conference organised by AIBD as its flagship event. Every year in consultation with the members, partners and various global media gurus, a theme guides the direction and delivery of the summit. Being a unique broadcasting event in Asia-Pacific, it attracts around 500 top-ranking broadcasters, decision makers, media professionals, regulators, scholars, and stakeholders from within and outside the region. Apart from plenary sessions and pre-summit workshops, Asia Media Summit also provides a platform for intergovernmental dialogues to uplift the benchmarks of the regional media industry.

Nepal to Host GC 2012

AIBD Director Yang Binyuan paid an official visit to Nepal from November 21 to 24 to contribute for successful preparations of the 38th Annual Gathering and 11th AIBD General Conference & Associated Meetings, which will be hosted by Nepal Television (NTV) in Kathmandu, Nepal from July 25 to 27, 2012.

AIBD Director Yang Binyuan paid an official visit to Nepal from November 21 to 24 to contribute for successful preparations of the 38th Annual Gathering and 11th AIBD General Conference & Associated Meetings, which will be hosted by Nepal Television (NTV) in Kathmandu, Nepal from July 25 to 27, 2012.

The visit was fruitful as it provided an opportunity for AIBD and broadcasting organizations in Nepal to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the future.

On November 22nd, 2011, together with AIBD Programme Manager, Ms. Geraldine Mouche, AIBD team visited NTV headquarters in Kathmandu and met with Mr. Deepak Mani Dhital, Act. General Manager of NTV and the management team of NTV.

During the meeting, Deepak pledged that since this will be the first time in history for Nepal to host the AIBD General Conference, NTV would do its best to make the AIBD GC 2012 a great success. He said that NTV will form different sub-committees to best organize the conference.

AIBD Director Yang Binyuan thanked NTV for their commitment to host the AIBD GC and pledged AIBD’s continued support to NTV in the training and capacity building initiatives, especially in the areas of technology and production, digital archiving, finance and administration.

On November 23rd, 2011, after the inspection of the candidate hotels, AIBD team held another round of discussions with NTV management on the pending issues of hosting the AIBD GC 2012 and agreed to keep regular contact on the preparations.

To inspect and finalise the hotel of the AIBD GC 2012 is on top of the agenda during

AIBD team’s stay in Kathmandu.

From November 22 to 23, accompanied by NTV, AIBD team visited five hotels, namely,

Soaltee Crowne Plaza, Hyatt Regency, Everest, Yak & Yeti and Hotel Annapurna.

During the visit to each hotel, AIBD team met the hotel management, inspected the rooms, conference facilities and restaurants.

Given the lessons learned at AIBD GC 2011 in Mongolia and the conditions in Nepal, AIBD would choose an international hotel which is able to provide best professional services with a safe and sound environment.

On November 23rd, 2011, AIBD team visited the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters Nepal (ACORAB), an affiliate member of AIBD, and met Mr. Min Bahadur Shahi, President of ACORAB and other secretariat members.

During the meeting, ACORAB presented a briefing on its achievements since it was established in 2002. It now has over 200 community radio members and has launched the largest social satellite radio network in Nepal and South Asia at large.

In an interview with ACORAB radio, AIBD Director Yang Binyuan praised the progress of community radios in Nepal and spoke highly of ACORAB’s significant role in social transformation. Given that Nepal’s community radios are contributing in the country’s peace and social cohesion, Director Yang Binyuan invited ACORAB to speak at the Asia Media Summit 2012.

ACORAB also expressed their willingness to cooperate with AIBD in training and capacity building in technical support, community radio management, news and production, training of trainers (TOT) as well as good governance.
