19TH ASIA MEDIA SUMMIT
The Asia Media Summit (AMS) is an annual international media conference organised by AIBD as its flagship event. Every year in consultation with the members, partners and various global media gurus, a theme guides the direction and delivery of the summit. Being a unique broadcasting event in Asia-Pacific, it attracts around 500 top-ranking broadcasters, decision makers, media professionals, regulators, scholars, and stakeholders from within and outside the region. Apart from plenary sessions and pre-summit workshops, Asia Media Summit also provides a platform for intergovernmental dialogues to uplift the benchmarks of the regional media industry.

17 senior managers have attended the four-day regional workshop on Broadcast Management in Kuala Lumpur, organized and hosted by AIBD, and supported by ABU, FES, ER and MSF.

The participants are from the Radio & Television Broadcasting organizations from 11 countries including Bangladesh, Maldives, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand and Vietnam.

The workshop, held from 12 to 15 September 2011, was aimed to provide a forum to acquire knowledge on key elements required for broadcast management styles and techniques, quality management tools and techniques to enable the participants to adapt to the needs of the media industry.

Ms. Barbara Skerath from Germany covered the topics relevant to broadcast management including leadership and strategic management, different managerial and leadership styles, use of power in decision making and examined various concepts of human resource development with a view to creating a high performance culture.

Mr. David Balme, consultant from the Media Society Foundation in Geneva focused on creating an understanding on the specifics of the media industry in relation to quality management, introduction to the last version of the international standard related to the media (ISAS BCP 9001:2010) and the quality management system through the newly developed “Quality Management Starter Kit” during the 4-day training activity.

Mr Yang Binyuan, Director AIBD presented the certificates to the participants during the closing ceremony.

The participants also took time out to visit the studios of Radio and Television Malaysia (RTM) during the workshop.
