Asia Media Summit – Telling our stories
Ministers of Information and Broadcasting from Bangladesh, Cambodia, India and Korea join over 40 local and international speakers who are attending the Asia Media Summit 2018, one of the world’s premiere conferences on media and communication, set in New Delhi, India from 10-12 May.
They will share their experiences and expertise on the Summit’s theme, “Telling Our Stories – Asia and More,” that focuses on content trends, innovations in storytelling, distribution and promotion strategies, regulations, technologies, business models and on how broadcasters can best tell stories that impact individuals and societies across Asia-Pacific and beyond.
H.E. Smriti Zubin Irani, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, India will inauguratethe Summit that features plenary and parallel sessions as well as moderated debates and a roundtable among CEOs.
The Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) is the Summit’s organiser with support from hosts India’s Ministry of Information & Broadcasting(MIB), BroadcastEngineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL) and Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC).
More than 300 participants, mostly decision makers, media professionals, scholars, and stakeholders in the broadcast and multimedia industries from Asia-Pacific, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East are attending the summit, now on its 15th year.
The first day will cover discussions dealing with media regulations and ethics, content trends and exciting stories of our time. There will be moderated debates on whether or not broadcasters in the region are losing “Asian values” in the fast-changing multimedia environment, and on issues on the prospect for commercially successful good content.
The second day will highlight topics on new media technologies, business models, innovative approaches to producing compelling and exciting stories as well as sustainable development stories. A roundtable among CEOs from the broadcast industry will discuss strategies in story-telling in order to help achieve business success as well as relevance and impact for society.
A highlight of the two-day Summit is the presentation of the World Television Awards 2018on two categories : Humanity for the Best TV Documentary on Migration or Immigration and Science/Environment for the Best TV Programme on Clean Water for Life.
The AIBD, established in 1977 under the auspices of United Nations is a unique regional inter-governmental organisation servicing countries of the United Nations Economic and SocialCommission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) in the field of electronic media development.
It is mandated to achieve a vibrant and cohesive electronic media environment in the Asia-Pacific region through policy and resource development. It is hosted by the Government of Malaysia and the secretariat is located in Kuala Lumpur.
