19TH ASIA MEDIA SUMMIT
The Asia Media Summit (AMS) is an annual international media conference organised by AIBD as its flagship event. Every year in consultation with the members, partners and various global media gurus, a theme guides the direction and delivery of the summit. Being a unique broadcasting event in Asia-Pacific, it attracts around 500 top-ranking broadcasters, decision makers, media professionals, regulators, scholars, and stakeholders from within and outside the region. Apart from plenary sessions and pre-summit workshops, Asia Media Summit also provides a platform for intergovernmental dialogues to uplift the benchmarks of the regional media industry.

The ABU Secretariat invites applications for the post of DIRECTOR ABU NEWS

The ABU is seeking to recruit a high-calibre professional as a Director ABU News, starting in January 2018. The present Director ABU News will complete his contract with the ABU at the end of this year. Applications are therefore being sought to fill this important position with a view to having the new Director take over the role in January 2018.

This is one of the most senior positions in the ABU Secretariat. The Director ABU News is reporting directly to the Secretary-General, and is responsible for the overall management and supervision of the News Department.

POSITION DETAILS
The key responsibilities of the position are:

  • Developing the ABU News Department strategy and annual activity plans and budgets to meet the requirements of the ABU Strategic Plan and the ABU Action Plan.
  • Overall management of the Asiavision (AVN) news exchange. This includes improving the technical and editorial standards of AVN, exercising editorial control over the content, preparing the annual budget, expanding the AVN membership base, arranging training and capacity-building activities for members.
  • Organising the annual meetings of the News Group and the AVN Coordinators and other news-related meetings such as the ABU Global New Forum.

REQUIREMENTS
Applications will only be considered from candidates with:

  • A recognised university degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in news and/or current affairs coverage, including in management role
  • The applicant should be a citizen of a country within the ABU region, and have experience in organising large events such as conferences, seminars and forums.

REMUNERATION & BENEFITS

Salary
The salary for this position will depend on qualifications and experience. If the successful applicant is a non-Malaysian citizen, salary and allowances will be free of income tax in Malaysia.

Annual leave
Twenty one (21) working days paid annual leave is offered.

Medical benefits
Group hospitalisation insurance cover will be provided in addition to reimbursement of 70 percent of outpatient medical and dental treatments up to RM1,800 a year
