Media’s Mission: Championing Social Good and Shaping a New Future

In His welcoming remarks as the Strategic Partner, the Managing Director/Chief Future Officer, BAC Educstion Group, Malaysia, Mr Raja Singham said this year’s theme “The New Odyssey”,  befitting to capture the profound transformation  in broadcasting brought about by technological advancements and societal changes.

As media practitioners, we navigate a landscape filled with both challenges and opportunities. As the proverb says, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” This summit represents one of those significant steps on our collective effort toward innovation and resilience and symbolizes our collective journey toward innovation and resilience in the face of adversity.

Therefore, it’s time for media to champion social good and shape a new future. The current   focuson negative news and content that fuels hatred and conflict needs to be re-evaluated. Media outlets havethe power to drive positive social change by being solution-oriented rather than problem-focused. By emphasising constructive approaches and solutions, media can play a pivotal role in fostering a moreinformed and hopeful society.

Experts from around the world have gathered here to discuss the pressing issues such as bridging the digital divide and enhancing media literacy. “Let us seize this opportunity to explore how we can best collaborate with the media, leveraging its potential to drive economic prosperity and resilience in our respective nations”, he urged.
