Pre-summit workshops – Asia Media Summit 2018
The Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) opens to working professionals in the media industry from Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East some pre-summit workshops on trends, innovations and approaches on story-telling and on emerging technologies to include augmented reality and mobile journalism.
AIBD partners are supporting the pre-summit events, set in New Delhi, India from 8-9 May 2018; they include China Central Television (CCTV), Samsung, Korea IPTV Broadcasting Association (KIBA), BECIL, StarTimes Communication Network Technology Co. Ltd.(STARTIMES), RadioDays Europe and Thomson Foundation.
From 8-9 May 2018, AIBD will hold a master class on storytelling, focusing on upgrading skills of media practitioners in creating better narratives and telling stories that meet audience needs. The consultants are Ms Sarah Gibson, Mr Yang Fuqing and Mr Abhaya Kamat Padhi will hold the AIBD/CCTV Master Class: Storytelling – Principles, Methods and Aims that will have 25 invited participants.
Another two-day workshop focuses on augmented reality and virtual reality and benefits of using these technological applications to create content and enhance audience viewing experience. Mr Aale Raza, Mr Naresh Gupta and Ms Shivanshu Samantha Ramlu will conduct the workshop.
Media law and ethics, particularly in the age of new media and social media, are the subject of another regional workshop on 9 May 2018. Topics to be covered are hate speech, invasion of privacy, copyright laws and code of conduct and ethics of journalism, among others; Dr Venkat Iyer will serve as consultant for the one-day workshop.
AIBD and Radiodays Europe/RCS are holding a workshop on current challenges and competition for radio and audio. The workshop will highlight ways of creating engaging content for audio and how to tell compelling stories, relevant for its audiences. It will also give an overview of the latest trends in successful radio formats and businesses in Asia-Pacific and in Europe. Mr Anders Held, Mr Steve Ahern and Mr Martin Liss will conduct the workshop on 9 May 2018.
Mobile journalism takes centre stage in another AIBD Regional Workshop on 9 May 2018. Participants will learn how to use mobile or cellphone to shoot stills or video, capture and edit video and audio, and compose stories with fold-away keyboards. Mobile journalism or “mojo” changes journalism because of the ability to break news from the field, cheaply and simply. Ms Deborah Kelly will serve as the workshop’s consultant.
AIBD Workshop on Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting – Transition Strategy, on 9 May 2018 will be conducted by Ms Archana Gupta and Gao Shifeng for 11 participants.
