Asia Media Summit 2024

19TH ASIA MEDIA SUMMIT
The Asia Media Summit (AMS) is an annual international media conference organised by AIBD as its flagship event. Every year in consultation with the members, partners and various global media gurus, a theme guides the direction and delivery of the summit. Being a unique broadcasting event in Asia-Pacific, it attracts around 500 top-ranking broadcasters, decision makers, media professionals, regulators, scholars, and stakeholders from within and outside the region. Apart from plenary sessions and pre-summit workshops, Asia Media Summit also provides a platform for intergovernmental dialogues to uplift the benchmarks of the regional media industry.

Following the INPUT Conference held in El Salvador in May 2013, The Goethe-Institut organised a MINI-INPUT from 14 to 16 November 2013 in Manila, in association with ABS-CBN, GMA Network, Inc. and the University of Santo Tomas.

This second MINI-INPUT was a chance for broadcasters to watch a selection of programmes screened at INPUT 2013 and the challenge was not to screen the best, but rather the most interesting TV programmes in order to have interesting discussions among broadcasters.

So during the Conference, TV programmes were screened, followed by lively and friendly discussions and debates. Delegates from many countries could discuss about topics like ‘Programming despite a tight budget’, ‘Hitting the right tone when programming for children’ or ‘Religion on TV’. The programmes screened demonstrated how various and imaginative TV producers can be.

AIBD Programme Manager, Ms. Geraldine Mouche represented the Institute at the Conference in Manila.

This platform aimed to facilitate the exchange between broadcasters in Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, especially for the public broadcasters, and this event was a complete success. Today, with the constant influx of new technologies and social media, it is important that broadcasters can sit together and have an opportunity to watch programmes coming from all over the world and think about how they can improve or change their own content.

A third MINI-INPUT will be organised in Vietnam in 2014, following the next INPUT Conference to be held on 12-15 May 2014 in Helsinki, Finland.

This autumn I had the pleasure of conducting 2 in-country workshops on “Children’s TV Programmes” organized by AIBD with the support of NRK. The first workshop was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, hosted by National Television of Cambodia (TVK) from 14 to 18 October with a group of 12 participants. Then I conducted the second activity with 11 participants from Radio Television Brunei (RTB) in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei from 4 to 9 November 2013.
