More Challenges in Digital Migration

Mr. Houlin Zhao, ITU Deputy Secretary General, says ITU will continue to work with AIBD and other partners to assist in the best possible and feasible manner in the digital migration process.

Mr. Houlin Zhao, ITU Deputy Secretary General, says ITU will continue to work with AIBD and other partners to assist in the best possible and feasible manner in the digital migration process.

He said broadcasters still face forthcoming challenges that will need to be addressed as countries implement their transitions including the issue of digital dividend.

Mr. Zhao spoke at the closing ceremony today (May 28) of the ITU-AIBD-ABU Regional Workshop on Digital Broadcasting: Opportunities, Business and Challenges in Bangkok. For his part, AIBD Director Yang Binyuan thanked ITU for its continued support and said he looked forward to more AIBD-ITU initiatives in digital broadcasting.

In his remarks, he cited some of opportunities and challenges that were discussed in the three-day workshop, among them, were an update on new telecommunication and broadcasting technologies, experiences of countries in developing their transition roadmaps and appropriate national policies and regulations.

In the digital migration work, ITU has partnered with AIBD, ABU, the Korea Communications Commission, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of Thailand as well as the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy of Australia.
