WORLD TV AWARD 2010 ON DOCUMENTARY PROMOTING RELIGIOUS UNDERSTANDING AND TOLERANCE 

“After 2 winters…and 20 years”

This year, we received 26 entries this year from 12 countries.The jury met during the Asia Media Summit 2010 in Beijing and was chaired by Ms. Moneeza Hashmi, General Manager HUM TV Pakistan.

“After 2 winters…and 20 years”

This year, we received 26 entries this year from 12 countries.The jury met during the Asia Media Summit 2010 in Beijing and was chaired by Ms. Moneeza Hashmi, General Manager HUM TV Pakistan.

The jury members were Mr. Faith Isiakpere, film-maker, South Africa, Ms. Firdoze Bulbulia, documentary director, producer and writer from South Africa, Mr. KIM Kyu-Hyo, Executive Producer from KBS, Korea, Mr. Dimitri Mendjisky, Regional Audiovisual Attache and TV Producer from Singapore, Ms. Hyunsook, Head of International Relations and TV producer from EBS, Korea, Mr Mohsen Mohamad, Manager Of Artistic Committee Lebanese Communication Group From MANAR TV, Lebanon, Dr Rohmad Fakeh, Deputy Director of Strategic Planning from RTM, Malaysia and Mr. Mahgoub Ellattawi, Director of Musical Production from Sudanese National TV Corporation, Sudan

After deliberation based on production and content values, the Jury reached a unanimous decision on the winner and this was the first time since the World TV Award has been settled.

The jury selected as the top prize winner “After 2 winters…and 20 years” produced Ms. Venera Yumagulova and broadcast by State TV and radio broadcasting, Russia.

“After 2 winters…and 20 years” is a story of a man, Yuri, who joined the Russian army in the 80s and went to Afghanistan. He was supposed to come back after 2 years… but he returned 20 years later. After 5 years in an Afghan prison and as soon as the Soviet troops left Afghanistan, he was supposed to be shot. But Yuri was an electrician and finally, Afghans decided to keep him alive as his skills were so precious to re-build the country. He then worked as a shopkeeper, met a Afghan girl, married her, got a son and adopted Islam. After 20 years, he has been able to come back to Russia with his family, where his mother was waiting for him. They all live together, an Orthodox mother and a Muslim son, they all pray together and seek for peace and tolerance…

A trophy and a 5,000USD cash prize has been handed over to the winner during the AIBD General Conference organized in Macau in July 2010.

The 7th World TV Award has been supported by Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU), Commonwealth Broadcasting Association (CBA), Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) and Islamic Broadcasting Union (IBU)
