CALL FOR APPLICATIONS from TV broadcasting organizations in Kazakhstan

The goals of the workshop are to “encourage media to engage in public participation and to debate improvements that can lead to sustainable development” (Media as partners in education for sustainable development, UNESCO, 2008) and to improve the ability of TV journalists in Kazakhstan to conduct research and analysis and present balanced, contextualized coverage of environmental issues and their human impacts.

Objectives:
At the end of the workshop the participants will be able to:
• Report on global/regional/local environmental issues;
• Research and critically evaluate scientific reports, data and statistics;
• Relate scientific research to human impacts, placing environmental issues in their economic, social and political contexts;
• Research, write and produce in-depth TV news stories and features on the effects of climate change and local environmental issues.

To apply, please submit in Russian and/or English:
- A one-page statement indicating how you will use the knowledge and skills from the workshop to improve your environmental reporting;
- A curriculum vitae;
- A letter from your editor or manager supporting your participation in the workshop, and indicating an interest in broadcasting reports you produce.
