With a B Sc degree in Physics and a Masters in Life Scieces, K P Madhu started out as a freelance science journalist in 1978 and moved on to scripting and directing television programmes in 1982, when most of the work was done in Black & White film. He adapted well when television started using video, first analogue and then digital. From 1984, he started doing camera work and editing and increased his skill sets. He also broadened his scope of content from Science to Education and by 1990s, to Development Communication. Similary, his interest in the media has also been shifting from Journalism to television and recently, to multimedia.

He has worked as a freelancer, as a Government servant, as a Private sector employee and as a volunteer in the NGO sector with designations like Producer, Chief producer, Course Director, Joint Director and Media Consultant. Along with the changes in designations, he has shouldered responsibilities in supervision, quality improvement and media management. In the process, he re-discovered his passion for training and teaching. He has taught short courses on journalism and television in premier institutions in Delhi. The experience taught him that medium is not the message.
He has a wide range of academic interests and one aspect that has not changed over years is his interest in neurosciences. He has published academic papers in media journals and a popular science book on Wars and Terrorism. Another book, on Media Libraries, is under publication.
Madhu joined AIBD in November, 2004.
