Yang Binyuan has been appointed as the Director of AIBD with effect from June 2010 with the approval of the Board and endorsement of the President of AIBD General Conference, and assumed duties in September 2010.
Mr. Yang Binyuan was the Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Head of Chinese Language Promotion Division of China Radio International (CRI), the only overseas broadcaster in the People's Republic of China. He holds a Ba. Degree in History from Peking University. He is a senior English translator and broadcaster. He’s been specially tasked to implement CRI’s Chinese language promotion program overseas and manage over a dozen of CRI Confucius Classrooms around the world.
Mr. Binyuan has covered many national and international events, such as 1995 World University Games in Fukuoka, Japan, Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996, Bangkok Asian Games in 1998, Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia in 2001, and 2004 Athens Olympic Games. He also covered the US-led war on Iraq in 2003 and was sent to Qatar where the US Central Command is located. He was awarded with quite a number of Chinese Broadcasting Award and Chinese News Prize on national level during his career.
Mr. Binyuan has rich experience in broadcasting and media management, having served as the first director of CRI NewsRadio in 2005, taking helm in human resources, programming and production. From 2006 to 2008, he was Head of Broadcast Division, Media Operations of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG), and Deputy Venue Manager and Secretary-General of the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. He is the major liaison between BOCOG and Olympic host broadcaster, Beijing Olympic Broadcasting (BOB). In addition, He is no stranger to international rights-holding broadcasters such as National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). He was awarded with the excellence award of Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games by China’s State Council.
Mr. Binyuan has taken part in various international meetings in radio and television, such as Asia Media Summit in 2005 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, SPORTEL Asia 2006 in Shanghai, the 1st World Broadcaster Meeting of Beijing Olympics in August 2006, during which he presented a report on Beijing Olympics at the ABU-OTI Workshop. He also represented BOCOG to give a presentation on Beijing Olympics at SPORTEL Monaco 2006. At the 43rd ABU General Assembly in Beijing in November 2006, he was the chairperson of an update briefing on the Beijing Olympics. In December 2007, he attended the IOC RTV Commission Meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland and visited EBU headquarters in Geneva. As Head of Broadcast of BOCOG Media Operations, he was a regular participant of IOC-BOCOG Coordination Meetings and BOCOG-BOB briefings from 2006 to 2008.
