Invitation for the Asia Media Summit 2011

[img_assist|nid=135|title=|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=70|height=100]The Asia Media Summit 2011, organised by AIBD and hosted by The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) will be held at Melia Hanoi Hotel, Hanoi, from 24 to 25 May 2011. Several pre-summit workshops/seminars will also be held in the same hotel on 23 May 2011.

We are expecting 500 top-ranking broadcasters, decision makers, media professionals, regulators, scholars, and stakeholders from Asia, Pacific, Europe, Africa, North America and the Arab World to attend the Asia Media Summit and to examine issues that impact the highly competitive and dynamic media environment.

Challenges to Public Service Broadcasting

The media landscape in Bhutan offers many opportunities as well as challenges for those involved in reform.   For a country which introduced television as recently as 1999, and which until a couple of years ago had only one (state-owned) newspaper, the spurt in media-related activity, especially since the advent of popular democracy in 2008, has been striking.  It is not surprising, therefore, that attention has now turned to strengthening public service broadcasting in this Himalayan idyll.

1st Pacific Media Partnership

The 1st Pacific Media Partnership Forum was held successfully in Tonga on 20-27 August 2010. The event offered media practitioners in the region concepts and tools that will enhance capacity in various aspects of broadcasting critical in responding to the rapidly changing media landscape.

More than 50 media practitioners from 13 countries participated in six seminars and workshops covering convergent journalism, marketing and financial management, media’s role in natural disasters, public service broadcasting, media regulations and initiatives to build a vibrant broadcast industry in the region. The Tonga Broadcasting Commission hosted these activities in Nuku’alofa.

General Conference 2010 - Impressions

The AIBD General Conference and its Associated Meetings is the annual official gathering of the Institute. The General Conference is open to AIBD Members Countries, Affiliates Members and partners by invitation only. Members Countries, Affiliates and partners would have the opportunity to review the huge number of activities handled by their Institute within and comment on the future activities.

Staff welcomes new AIBD director

After assuming duties last Friday the 17th of September, the new director of AIBD, Mr Yang Binyuan was welcomed today in a get together at the AIBD Conference room. The former AIBD Director and ABU Secretary General Javad Mottaghi and the staff from AIBD, FES and GMCD attended.

[img_assist|nid=38|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=60|height=80]Mr Yang Binyuan, Deputy Director, Office of International Cooperation and Head of Chinese Language Promotion Division of China Radio International(CRI) of Peoples Republic China has been appointed as the new Director of AIBD.

The decision was made at the Executive Board Meeting held on 24 & 25th June 2010 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, following the procedure with reference to the Extra Ordinary Meeting of the AIBD General Conference held on 26th May 2010 in Beijing.
